Supporting Carers

Support for Families and Carers

Stronger practical support for families dealing with bereavement, serious illness, disability, or additional needs.

>Proper recognition and practical help for unpaid carers of all ages.
>Making sure services put the person’s best interests first and work together.
>I will press for a proper review of carer benefits so they better reflect real individual circumstances, rather than a rigid one-size-fits-all approach with a view to remove the restrictions that currently prevent many carers from taking on work when they can.

Older People

Older residents form a core part of Port Erin, Port St Mary, and the wider parish. They deserve services that help them stay independent, connected, and safe.

>Better support to help older people remain in their own homes for longer.
>Accessible local health and community services.
>Suitable housing options for those who want to downsize or live more independently.
>Community transport and social opportunities that reduce isolation.
>Pavements, access, and public spaces that work for people of all ages and abilities.
